58.2 Revisiting Design and Operation Criteria for Irrigation and Drainage Facilities
58.3 Managing Frequent Floods and Droughts
Question 59: How do Irrigation and Drainage interventions secure food production and livelihood for rural community?
59.1 Securing water and livelihood of rural community
59.2 Improving Irrigation Efficiency
59.3 Water Sharing and Water Transfer in Water Stressed Areas
Special Session: New partnership for Rural Development

Irrigation Conferences Set for Reno and Phoenix, U.S.A.
Water resources professionals from around the world are encouraged to participate in two upcoming meetings organized by the U.S. Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (USCID).
Reno, Nevada — November 13-16, 2012
Managing Irrigation Systems in Today's Environment is the theme of the Conference to be held in Reno, Nevada, November 13-16, 2012. The diversity and complexity of issues facing irrigation districts today presents challenges for district managers and staff. This Conference will focus on contemporary issues and the experiences of irrigation districts in the western U.S., but representatives of water agencies overseas will find the Conference discussions to be relevant as well. Issues such as modernization of aging infrastructure, water shortages, changing water quality regulations, environmental issues, and the need for managers and staff to understand and implement new technologies are topics that will be beneficial to water resources professionals, including officials from government agencies, water districts, academia and consultants.
A Monday afternoon half day Workshop on Irrigation District Modernization will be presented by Charles M. Burt, who has experience in more than 200 districts worldwide. He is Chairman of Cal Poly's Irrigation Training and Research Center.
Conference details, including registration and hotel information, are online now. The Conference venue is the beautiful Peppermill Resort Spa Casino, with a 24-hour casino, several restaurants, bars and lounges, as well as two pools, a fitness center and boutique shops |
Phoenix, Arizona — April 16-19, 2013
USCID will host the Seventh International Conference on Irrigation and Drainage in the desert southwest during April 2013. The Conference Theme, Using 21st Century Technology to Better Manage Irrigation Water Supplies, recognizes that since the beginning of the 21st century, advances in science and technology have been unprecedented. The agricultural industry needs to embrace these 21st century technologies to once again transform and adapt agricultural practices to improve efficiency and benefit people, not just in the United States, but throughout the world. The goal of the Conference is to bring together water resources professionals interested in the new technologies, as they relate to irrigated agriculture.
Abstracts are invited by October 15 for proposed papers on the following topics:
- Water Savings for Transfers
- New Flow and Delivery Challenges
- Innovative Technology
- Advances in Evapotranspiration Prediction
- Water Quality and Drainage
- On Farm Challenges
- Flood Control
|
Both Conferences will feature oral and poster session presentations, an exhibition, field tours and networking events.
